Fixed Price Calculator

Work out what to charge for a fixed price job, project or product, or how much you can spend on it when the price is already set. Free to use, no sign up required.

Pick how you want to work it out. Pop in your numbers, then add any discount or commission and use the switches to choose who pays for them: your margin, or your customer.

Aiming for a 60% margin but paying a 10% commission to the person who brought the work in? If it comes out of your margin, you're really on 50%. Flip the switch to see what you'd need to charge to keep the full 60%.

What the terms mean

Margin

Your profit as a percentage of what you actually sell for, ex VAT and after any discount. So if you sell for £1,000 and it costs you £400 (including any commission), your margin is 60%. It's not the same as markup, which is worked out on cost. The Markup vs Margin tool shows the difference.

Ex VAT and inc VAT

Ex VAT is the price before VAT is added. Inc VAT is what the customer actually pays. VAT isn't your money, you collect it and pass it to HMRC, so your costs, margin and budget are always worked out ex VAT.

Discount

A percentage off the full price inc VAT, like a sale price or a loyalty discount. The same percentage comes off the ex VAT price too.

Commission or fees

A percentage paid to someone else for the sale, like an agent, a referral partner, or a platform or marketplace such as Etsy, Amazon or eBay. It's worked out on what the customer actually pays after any discount, with VAT taken off first.

Comes out of my margin

Switch it on and you absorb the discount or commission yourself. The price stays the same and your margin shrinks. Switch it off and the price goes up to cover it, so you still hit your target margin.

How the prices are rounded

The B2B price is rounded to 3 significant figures, up or down, so £1,187 becomes £1,190 and £12,345 becomes £12,300. The B2C price is always rounded up to the next clean price point: nearest 50p under £10, ending in 5 or 9 up to £999 (like £25, £49, £129, £495), ending in 49 or 99 up to £9,999 (like £1,249, £2,499), and the next £250 above that. The margin achieved shows what the rounding does to your profit.
